New Delhi: Actor Ray Stevenson, who portrayed the oppressive governor of Delhi in S.S. Rajamouli's period blockbuster ‘RRR’, died on Sunday. He was 58. The news was verified by his publicist to Variety. However, the reason of his death and further details are not known.
Stevenson was the second of three sons and was born on May 25, 1964, in Lisburn. When he was eight years old, he and his family relocated to England, where he attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After finishing college at age 29, he began appearing in film and television productions.
According to 'Variety,' Stevenson started out in the '90s doing TV, and then in the '00s he started getting action parts in Hollywood blockbusters.
Stevenson will be most recognised for his part as Volstagg in Marvel's 'Thor' trilogy, but he is well-known in India for his performance in 'RRR' alongside 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' actress Alison Doody. His portrayal of the evil Governor Scott Buxton in SS Rajamouli's historical action film ‘RRR’ last year made him a household name in India. The film starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan is the sole Indian film in his resume.
He first gained recognition in the United States with his performance as the shady Titus Pullo on the television series 'Rome,' which he played at the age of 44. The three successful seasons aired between 2005 and 2007.
Variety notes that in 2008, Stevenson won a leading part in the Marvel picture ‘Punisher: War Zone,’ in which he portrayed the lead character.
To be released after Stevenson's passing, 'Ahsoka' is a forthcoming action-adventure limited series that is a spin-off of 'The Mandalorian' from the Star Wars universe. A total of eight episodes will be available on Disney+ sometime in August.
