Gippy Grewal Opens Up About His Life In Canada: 'I Used To Clean Toilets, My Wife Used To Pick Trays At The Food Court'

Gippy Grewal discussed his life after relocating to Canada. The singer-actor said he used to take up any jobs he could get.

New Delhi: Punjabi singer-actor Gippy Grewal candidly talked about his life in Canada. From humble beginnings to stardom, Gippy’s story is a testament to resilience. He recently sat for a chat with Anupama Chopra in Film Companion where he talked about his early struggles. He painted a vivid picture of the immigrant experience in Canada. According to the singer, “Now when we talk like this, it was not a struggle, it did not feel like that at that time.”

Gippy Grewal recounted his journey when he was just eighteen. “Let me tell you, first of all, I worked in Delhi. I used to do hotel management in Delhi. I came as an age student, I got a small job at the same place and it was Rs 2800 monthly. I am talking about 1999 and early 2000, I was 18 years old,” he shared.

Gippy added, “After earning Rs 2800, I felt that it was not working, let's do albums. I also made two or three albums. It didn't work. I got married and after the marriage, I went out. After my wedding, one of my songs immediately became a super hit, but people knew about the song, not about me.”

Gippy Grewal’s experience in Canada

Gippy shared his humble beginnings in Canada and said, “I went to Canada because I wanted money. From the beginning, I can do any work. I would love to do even one role in a film if the scene seems to be happening. It's not like I am a hero, I won't do it, I am not like that. So, I was the same there (in Canada).”

He continued, “I went and got the job of a security guard, threw newspapers in the morning, then we used to clean public toilets in the mall and mob the floor. My wife used to clean those trays in the food court. But now after hearing this, we feel like, these are hard jobs, but people do them regularly. Our Punjabi brothers and sisters do this. The whole world does it, I also did it and I liked it very much.”

The singer also believes that “Your success should come with great difficulty. Then, you know the value of that success.”
