Actor Parineeti Chopra and her politician husband, Raghav Chadha got married at The Leela Palace in Udaipur in 2023. The couple, who faced significant trolling over the ceremony’s cost, recently responded to criticism and clarified the situation during an interview.

Raghav Chadha on his wedding

On Aap Ki Adalat, Raghav was quick to debunk rumours about exorbitant spending on the wedding venue. "We got married at a 5-star hotel, not a 7-star one. There were 40-50 rooms booked for our guests, and none of them cost ₹10 lakh as reported," he stated, addressing allegations about the high price tag.

Parineeti also spoke about the scrutiny she has faced since making her relationship with Raghav public, particularly regarding perceptions about her finances.

Parineeti on scrutiny around their wedding cost

“If I had married an actor, producer, or businessman, people would have said, 'Wow! This actress had such a grand wedding. That's how it should be.' But since I married a politician, the narrative suddenly became that he alone bore all the expenses and couldn’t afford such a lavish ceremony. This mindset of trolling and investigation is more prominent among voters and fans. In my world, people celebrate our happiness, but Raghav's world tends to be more critical,” she said.

The actress shared how criticism often stemmed from Raghav’s political circle, contrasting with the support and joy she received from her own industry. "In my world, people celebrate happiness. In Raghav's world, people are quick to criticise," she said.

Parineeti shared that the trolling extended to assumptions about her spending habits. "Before my marriage, if I bought a car or a house, it was considered normal. Suddenly, after the wedding, it’s like my money disappeared, and people assume I can’t spend anymore. It’s just perception," she said.

The couple tied the knot on September 24, 2023, in a private ceremony surrounded by close family and friends.

Parineeti doesn't regret rejecting Animal for Chamkila

On the professional front, Parineeti was last seen in ‘Chamkila’, a film she chose over the blockbuster Animal, where Rashmika Mandanna eventually played the lead opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

Parineeti expressed no regrets about her decision. "To be honest, I think higher power had something better for me. I was doing that film; almost everything was worked out. But on the same dates, I was offered Chamkila. I was offered many songs, I was singing songs composed by AR Rahman. I was offered to do so much more, that I chose Chamkila. The love, support, recognition, respect, and nominations which I got because of Chamkila, I think I don’t regret it. I am happy,” she said.
