Pankaj Udhas Was Suffering From Pancreatic Cancer, Confirms Anup Jalota

Veteran playback singer and ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday (February 26) after a prolonged illness. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer four months back. 

New Delhi: Veteran playback singer and ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday (February 26) after a prolonged illness. He was undergoing treatment at Breach Candu Hospital and breathed his last at 11 AM today. There were reports that the singer was diagnosed with cancer a few months back. 

Singer Anup Jalota who shared a close bond with the late singer, confirmed the news to ABP News and said that he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer four months back. 

The singer's family released a statement confirming the death of the ghazal maestro that read: "With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February due to a prolonged illness. Udhas family." 

The singer's last rites will be performed on Tuesday (February 27). 

Celebrities pay tribute
Celebrities and netizens took to social media to condole the death of Pankaj Udhas and paid tribute to the singer. 

Singer Sonu Nigam wrote on Instagram, “One of the most important part of my childhood, is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti.”

Actor Abhishek Bachchan wrote, “Very saddened by Pankaj Udhas ji's passing. His demise is an irreplaceable loss to our music world. My sincere condolences to his family and friends in this difficult time. Om Shanti.” 

Singer Sophie Choudry posted on X, "Heartbreaking. One of the kindest gentlemen in the music business. Was always so warm and encouraging from the first time we met. My deepest condolences to Faridaji and the family. Rest in Peace Pankaj ji. Thank you for the music ??? #pankajudhas" 

About the ghazal maestro
Born in 1951, Pankaj Udhas was a legendary Indian singer known for his soulful ghazals. Udhas' unique voice and deep understanding of the poetry brought these songs to life, touching the hearts of listeners.

He began his career in the 1980s and released over 60 albums. Songs like "Chitthi Aai Hai" became hugely popular, making him a household name and a leading figure in ghazal music. Udhas' dedication earned him prestigious awards, including Padma Shree in 2006, solidifying his legacy as a true ghazal maestro.
