New Delhi: The sudden demise of singer and actress Mallika Rajput has sent shockwaves through her family and the entertainment industry. The 35-year-old also recognised as Vijay Lakshmi, was discovered dead today under mysterious circumstances, with her body found hanging from a fan in her home at Sitakund locality, Sultanpur, UP. Sumitra Singh, Mallika's mother, said that she and her family were asleep at the time of the incident. 


According to reports, Mallika's family members were left devastated upon finding her hanging in her bedroom. Mallika's mother reportedly told India TV, "Earlier the door was closed. And the light was on. We took three rounds but could not open the door. At last, I looked through the window and saw that she was standing there. When I knocked on the door, I saw that our daughter was hanging. I called my husband and others but she was no more."


Local authorities swiftly responded to the scene, completing the necessary formalities and sending the body for post-mortem examination. At first glance, it seems to be a suicide, according to Shriram Pandey, the in-charge of the Kotwali police station, who spoke with PTI. The precise cause of death, he said, would be revealed with the arrival of the postmortem report.

In 2016, she ventured into politics by joining the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP. Mallika, a trained Kathak dancer, further showcased her talent by composing and performing original ghazals at various poetry sessions.
