Kangana Ranaut gets slapped by CISF guard at Chandigarh airport: Bollywood actor and newly elected BJP MP from Himachal's Mandi seat, Kangana Ranaut, was allegedly slapped by a CISF guard at Chandigarh Airport over her remarks on the farmers' protests. The incident occurred while Ranaut was on her way to Delhi. She has demanded strict action against the guard, identified as Kulwinder Kaur. Ranaut stated that she was hit in the face and verbally abused. Though she is safe, she expressed concerns about terrorism in Punjab.

Kangana Ranaut and controversies surrounding her

She sparked a debate on nepotism in Bollywood, received security after comparing the Maharashtra government to PoK, and was banned from Twitter for her comments on the violence in West Bengal. Unabashedly political and outspoken, actor Kangana Ranaut is now headed for Parliament as the BJP’s MP from Mandi.

The 37-year-old, who was also sued for defamation by industry veteran Javed Akhtar, is known as much for her acerbic comments as for her films.

Here's taking a look at the times when Kangana Ranaut sparked a controversy or got involved in one:

The freedom in 'Bheekh' comment

In an interview, actor Kangana Ranaut stated that India got its "real freedom" in 2014 and that the freedom from the British in 1947 was given as "bheek" (alms). Following this comment, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Preeti Menon filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Ranaut for the seditious remark. Soon after, Varun Gandhi and the Congress Party criticized the actor on social media, while political parties like Shiv Sena demanded that her Padma Shri and four national awards be revoked.

Javed Akhtar defamation case

In November 2020, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Akhtar took this legal action following defamatory comments made by Ranaut during a television interview in June, where she linked him to Sushant Singh Rajput's death. Ranaut alleged that Akhtar had asked her to apologize to Hrithik Roshan for damaging his reputation in 2016.

Kangana Ranaut's much-talked about breakup with Hrithik Roshan

In an interview, Kangana Ranaut remarked that "exes do silly things to get attention," alluding to Hrithik Roshan. Reportedly, Roshan had denied working with Ranaut in Aashiqui 3, which prompted a response from him on Twitter. This exchange led to a series of legal battles and public disputes between the two. However, after 2017, the case seemed to have lost momentum and faded from public attention.

Kangana Ranaut's feud with Diljit Dosanjh

Sharing the widely circulated image of a protester planting a flag during the Republic Day farmer's protest of 2021, the actor tagged Dosanjh and Priyanka Chopra, who supported the farmers' movement. She called on the two actors to explain the incident, stating that it had made the country a laughing stock in front of the world. In her previous tweets, she had accused the actors of 'misleading the farmers.'

The Twitter spat ignited when Kangana Ranaut shared false information about an elderly Sikh woman, alleging that she was protesting for a sum of Rs 100 and linking her to Bilkis Bano, popularly known as the Shaheen Bagh Dadi. Diljit Dosanjh responded by providing evidence of the woman's true identity. Kangana then referred to him as "Karan Johar ke paltu" (a pet of Karan Johar). Dosanjh's retort was epic: "Tuneh Jitne Logon Ke Saath Film Ki Tu Un Sab Ki Paaltu Hai...? Fer To List Lambi Ho Jaegi Maalko Ki..? Eh Bollywood Wale Ni PUNJAB Wale aa .. Hikk Te Vajj Sadey. Jhooth bol kar logo ko badhkana aur emotions se khailna woh toh aap achey se janti ho" (Are you a pet of whoever you have worked with? The list will be long then. This isn’t Bollywood, this is Punjab. You know how to play with people’s emotions). Quite epic, indeed!

When Twitter banned Kangana

Kangana Ranaut initially criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the alleged violence that erupted in the state following the announcement of State Assembly Election results on May 2 in 2021. However, Twitter permanently suspended her account after she seemed to be advocating for retaliatory violence in response to reports of bloodshed in West Bengal.

Kangana didn't stop at being banned and said, "We’ve been clear that we'll take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy."

Twitter also calmly explained the ban and said, "We’ve been clear that we'll take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy."

Kangana Ranaut's nepotism debate

The never ending and much-talked about debate on nepotism started when Kangana Ranaut called filmmaker Karan Johar "the flagbearer of nepotism" during the promotions of her film Rangoon on Karan's celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan. Kangana was accompanied by her co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor.

Later, at an award function, Varun Dhawan along with Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar, who were hosts for the event, mocked Kangana in the wake of the mepotism controversy. After much trolling on social media, the actors ultimately apologised to Kangana for their behaviour.

The nepotism debate was fueled again when Sushant Singh Rajput's death news hit the headlines. In an interview, Kangana called actors Tapsee Pannu and Swara Bhasker "B grade" actors and needy "outsiders".
