New Delhi: The actor Junior Mehmood has passed away. The seasoned actor had stomach cancer that had progressed to stage four. He was 67. According to a report by ETimes, his friend Salam Kazi has confirmed the news of his demise.


At 2:15 a.m., Junior Mehmood, who was born Naeem Sayyed, reportedly died at his residence. Husnain, Junior Mehmood's son, told Indian Express, “We came to know about his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. We took him to Tata Memorial Hospital. The dean there told us that treatment and chemotherapy at this stage would be very painful. The hospital had suggested that we take care of him at home.”


As per report, the funeral service for Junior Mehmood is scheduled to take place in Santacruz West's Juhu Muslim Cemetery, which also happens to be the location of his mother's burial, at approximately 12 pm.


Several movie stars, including Johnny Lever and Jeetendra, visited the ailing actor before he passed away. Junior Mehmood had said he wanted to meet the veteran actor, so Jeetendra headed to his house on Tuesday. 


Sachin Pilgaonkar also went to see Junior Mehmood. Later on, he wrote a message on Instagram pleading to his followers to pray for his childhood friend's health. 


With 'Mohabbat Zindagi Hai' (1966), Junior Mehmood made his cinematic debut as a child actor. He went on to star in films such as 'Brahmachari', 'Kati Patang', 'Haathi Mere Saathi', 'Caravan', and 'Naunihal'. After co-starring in the 1968 movie 'Suhaag Raat', Mehmood himself gave him the screen nickname Junior Mehmood. With shows like 'Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara' and 'Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka', the actor found a brief career in television. 



Veteran actor Junior Mehmood is survived by his wife Lata and two sons.
