Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently praised female actors in the Indian film industry for their dedication, highlighting how they consistently put in more effort than anyone else. Speaking about his long-time collaborator, Deepika Padukone, Imtiaz specifically mentioned her impressive work ethic, noting how she’s always ahead of her co-stars in terms of preparation and professionalism.

Imtiaz and Deepika have worked together on multiple successful projects, starting with ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and later on ‘Cocktail’, which marked a significant milestone in Deepika’s career. Though the latter was directed by Homi Adajania, Imtiaz was responsible for its script. The duo reunited for the 2015 hit ‘Tamasha’, where Deepika starred opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

Imtiaz Ali praises Deepika Padukone

“Deepika is a wonderful actor to work with. I feel so comfortable when she is on set. She is the easiest to work with, she gets ready the fastest, much before any co-actor. Even for the simplest of scenes, she requires no extra time to get into character. She’s truly a remarkable talent,” Imtiaz said in a video posted by Every Friday Movie.

Imtiaz on women in the film industry

Imtiaz also praised the relentless dedication of women in the industry. “I am talking about the so called ‘heroines’, the glamour girls of the Hindi film industry. They have to get on set many hours before anyone else so that they can start work on their looks, costumes; they shoot in uncomfortable shoots, wear short clothes in cold weather, sometimes get little sleep., They work the hardest in the film industry,” he said.

Imtiaz and Deepika haven’t worked together since 'Tamasha'. Fans can next catch Deepika in ‘Singham Again’, slated for release this Diwali. Imtiaz Ali, on the other hand, earned critical acclaim for his Netflix film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra.
