New Delhi: Speculations are rife that Bollywood actor Govinda is poised to make a comeback in politics. Sources have indicated that Govinda's name is being discussed in the race for the North-West Mumbai Lok Sabha seat. The actor is likely to join the Shiv Sena in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Govinda had a meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his Varsha residence recently, fuelling speculation about his political re-entry. Govinda had previously contested and won in the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket.
The announcement of Amol Kirtikar's name from the Mahavikas Aghadi has been made for the North-West seat by Udhav Thackeray. Govinda has been reportedly considered by Shiv Sena to replace the sitting MP Gajanan Kirtikar, due to his age.
Prior to this, discussions were held with Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit, and Nana Patekar for this position, but Akshay and Nana declined, and Madhuri Dixit did not express interest.
When Govinda defeated a BJP veteran
In 2004, Govinda contested elections from the North Mumbai Lok Sabha seat and defeated BJP's Ram Naik. Govinda's victory earned him the moniker of the 'giant killer'. The North Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency, traditionally considered a BJP stronghold, encompasses Borivali, Dahisar, Magathane, Kandivali East, Charkop, and Malad West assembly segments. Govinda's candidature under the Congress banner in the same constituency marked a watershed moment in his political career, as he emerged triumphant over Ram Naik, a veteran five-time MP, by a margin of 48,000 votes.
Govinda and Sunita get married again on national television
Meanwhile, Govinda made an appearance on the dance reality show 'Dance Deewane' with his wife Sunita Ahuja. During the show, Madhuri Dixit jokingly remarked, "No one knows when they got married." In response, Govinda's wife Sunita added, "Yes, we don’t have a single photo of our wedding." To this, Madhuri quipped, "Okay, no problem. If you don’t have a photo, you have the whole family of Dance Deewane. Let’s get you married today."
Subsequently, Sunil Shetty and Madhuri Dixit appeared with garlands in hand. Govinda and Sunita exchanged garlands on national television. Govinda looked dapper in a sherwani, while Sunita exuded elegance in a lehenga-choli ensemble.
