New Delhi: Former Bollywood actress Gayatri Joshi of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Swades' fame and her realtor husband Vikas Oberoi survived a major road accident in Sardinia, Italy, in which a Swiss couple was killed. According to reports, Vikas is being investigated in Italy and If found guilty, the businessman will serve a seven-year jail term.
According to Daily Mail, prosecutors in Cagliari have opened an investigation into the accident and, Vikas could face up to seven years in jail if charged and found guilty.
Oberoi was reportedly driving a blue Lamborghini Huracan. An apparent case of overtaking while on the fast lane resulted in the ill-fated Ferrari hitting a camper van ahead and also the Lamborghini, as seen in videos of the incident shot by passing vehicles, which surfaced on Tuesday.
The camper van had an unknown number of local Italian tourists from South Tyrol, and the Oberois’ Lamborghini went under the large vehicle which also overturned, while the Ferrari with the Swiss couple burst into a ball of flames, killing the senior couple in it.
The Italian local authorities identified the two elderly deceased persons as Markus Krautli, 67, and his wife Melissa Krautli, 63, hailing from Wallisellen town near Zurich, Switzerland.
Meanwhile, a new photo has surfaced online that shows the actress sitting on the road after the crash, shaken. Vikas is seen looking ahead towards the accident site.
Gayatri, who was on vacation with her husband, had spoken about the incident with Free Press Journal, and shared, “Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here (multiple-car collision).. With God’s grace, we both are absolutely fine.”
Gayatri made her acting debut in the 2004 film 'Swades' after winning the Femina Miss India International pageant in 2000. She played Geeta in the critically acclaimed Ashutosh Gowariker movie with Shah Rukh Khan. She quit the industry quickly after making her debut despite receiving a number of awards. She married businessman Vikas Oberoi in 2005, and the two are parents to two children.
