New Delhi: Actor and former Trinamool Congress member Mimi Chakraborty received death threats and inappropriate messages after posting regarding the Kolkata rape-murder case on social media. On Tuesday, August 20, Mimi shared a screenshot of one such message on her official social media handle and also tagged the Kolkata Police's cyber cell department.
Mimi wrote on X, "And we are demanding justice for women right? These are just few of them. Where rape threats has been normalised by venomous men masking themselves in the crowd saying they stand by women. What upbringing and education permits this???? (sic).”
Mimi Chakraborty was also part of a protest against the rape and murder of the said doctor in Kolkata. Other actors like Arindam Sil, Madhumita Sarcar, Riddhi Sen were also part of the in person protest which took place on August 14, and also included Mimi.
Mimi's post also caught her fans attention who flooded the comments section with support for the actor. A user wrote, "Thank you for having the courage to share this. People having internet does not mean they can say whatever they want. They need education first, and after getting punishment, they will learn..."
Another said, "Get these two B.....ds arrested and castrated."
Mimi had also shared a video on Instagram with a video from the August 14, 2024 protest with a caption that read, "Justice delayed is justice denied. Today my city of joy cried in its every corner as we failed as humans, every lane roared for Justice .And i would like to repeat my tweet again “Punishment should be such that next time even thinking of a henious crime like this gives you shiver down the spine…NO MERCY PLEA."
Chakraborty has been quite vocal about the heinous crime that shook the country close to celebrating its 78th Independence Day on August 9, 2024.
