Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani have known each other since their school time. The two met during an inter-school competition. Bharat and Isha had apparently fallen for each other at first sight. As per several reports, Isha had written her number on a tissue paper and given it to Bharat and the rest as they say, is history.
In an interview with India Today, Esha had shed light on her love story and said, “We met at the inter-school competition called Cascade, which my school hosted. I wrote my phone number on a piece of tissue and gave it to him. Back then I had braces. So, I always say he truly loved me with braces on. He found me cute.”
While Isha and Bharat did not meet much, they were quite regular on their phone calls. However, one time something happened between the two which led to Esha slapping Bharat. This was when Bharat had tried to hold her hand when they met each other. Esha was hurt about Bharat's words and slapped him. Post this episode, the two did not talk for about 10 years.
When the pair got back together ten years after the tragedy, Esha's sister Ahana acted as their matchmaker. Ahana informed Bharat of Esha's whereabouts while she was traveling in the US, and the two eventually crossed paths again. Then, the couple clicked.

Esha scheduled a meeting with her parents, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, shortly after they were reunited. Her parents approved of their relationship, and shortly after, the couple decided to become engaged.
Bharat got down on one knee and proposed to Esha Deol in February 2012. June 29, 2012, marked the couple's wedding. The ISKCON temple in Mumbai served as the venue for the wedding ceremony.

Unfortunately, the couple chose to peacefully divorce in 2024 after over 11 years of marriage, sharing parental responsibility for their two daughters.
