New Delhi: Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, who is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, has been in the limelight for quite some time. From becoming the first Punjabi artiste to perform at Coachella Music Festival to belting out hit songs one after the other, the Punjabi singer is reaching new heights in his career. Though his professional success is out there for all to see, very little is known about his personal life. The actor, who is busy giving interviews nowadays for ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, has never spoken much about his personal life and has kept it private.

Diljit Dosanjh is married with a kid
According to an Indian Express report, the singer is married and has a child. “An intensely private person, little is known about his family but friends say his wife is an American-Indian and they have a son, and his parents live in Ludhiana,” the article read.

On a Reddit thread about Diljit being married or not, a user shared that during the promotions of 'Good Newwz', Kiara Advani had said that she was the only one out of the four (Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh) who doesn't have a kid.

Why Diljit never talks about his family
Dosanjh has previously expressed his decision to keep his family life under wraps to shield them from potential negative attention. He had said in an interview, "I don’t want my family to be targeted with derogatory comments in case something bad happens. I want to keep them safe from trolls and media judgments. If I ever choose the wrong film or song, I don’t want my family to suffer because of that.”

“His father Balbir Singh was a bus driver with Punjab Roadways who enjoyed playing hockey in his spare time,” Indian Express quoted Makhan Singh, the sarpanch of Diljit’s childhood village, as saying.

Diljit's equation with his parents
Diljit had recently revealed in a podcast that his parents sent him away to Ludhiana to live with a relative when he was 11, a move that left him feeling disconnected from his family.

In a conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia, Diljit said, “I was eleven years old when I left my home and started living with my mamaji (maternal uncle). I came to the city leaving my village behind. I shifted to Ludhiana. He said ‘send him to the city with me’ and my parents said ‘yes, take him.’ My parents did not even ask me. “I used to stay alone in a small room. I used to just go to school and come back, there wasn’t any TV. I had a lot of time. Also, we didn’t have mobile phones back then, even if I had to call home or receive a call from my parents, it cost us money. So I started becoming distant from my family.”

Diljit started his musical career when he was 16
The singer was 16 when he released his first album ‘Ishq Da Uda Ada’.

“He was 16 when we cut his first album Ishq Da Uda Ada (The ABC of Love). By the time he was 17, he was charging Rs 50,000 for a show and was getting booked almost every day during the wedding season,” Balvir Boparai, a songwriter and composer, told Indian Express.

Diljit was last seen in Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Crew’, his film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is scheduled to release on Netflix on April 12. The singer-actor also has Jatt & Juliet 3 in the pipeline.
