New Delhi: Actor Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, daughter of veteran actor Rajinikanth, have officially filed for divorce over two years after publicly announcing their separation.  


According to a recent report by India Today, the couple submitted their divorce petition at the Chennai family court under Section 13 B, under mutual consent to part ways. Their case is expected to be addressed by the court in the near future. 


The decision to file for divorce comes after Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have been living separately for the past two years, following their announcement of separation in January 2022.

Dhanush had shared a statement on social media announcing the couple’s separation. He wrote, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this. Om Namashivaaya! Spread love, D." 


Aishwaryaa echoed similar sentiments on her Instagram account, sharing the same note with the caption, “No caption needed…only your understanding n your love necessary!"  


The couple, who tied the knot in 2004, are parents to two sons, Yatra and Linga, born in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Despite their decision to separate, they have continued to co-parent and support their children, often attending school events together. 


On the professional front
Following their separation, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth directed 'Lal Salaam,' featuring her father Rajinikanth in an extended cameo alongside actors Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth.  


Meanwhile, Dhanush was last seen in 'Captain Miller,' which is currently streaming on Prime Video. He is also set to portray the role of music maestro Ilaiyaraaja in an upcoming biopic directed by Arun Matheswaran.
