New Delhi: No matter which part of the country they live in, Indians always look forward to listening to music that soothes the soul, all the time. From healing people to making them groove, music does it all. Back in 2016, famous Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar created a masterpiece called, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. One of the songs that hogged all the limelight was ‘Bulleya’ sung by Amit Mishra. Born and brought up in a humble background in Lucknow, Amit has graced many chartbusters like ‘Sau Tarah Ke’, ‘Manma Emotion Jaage’, among others, in his brief career. Amit's most recent song was 'Dil Hai Bholaa' from Ajay Devgn's film 'Bholaa'.
In an exclusive conversation with ABP Live in Patna, Amit opened up about his career and his future plans. The Uttar Pradesh-based singer came to Bihar's capital to participate in the Dusshera Mahotsav organised by Akshat Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd owned by Sanjay Sinha and Apurva Anand.
Talking about his enthralling performance and the audience's enthusiasm, Amit said, "The audience was very amazing. It was an honour for me to come here and entertain the mass. I actually requested the organisers to give me a little extra time because I wanted to sing more since the people were thoroughly enjoying it. The song which I loved singing was, “Rinkiya Ke Papa”. I am a huge Manoj Tiwary fan. We used to sit in a coffee shop and jam over Manoj Sir's song. When I started singing this song, the audience loved it and the response was amazing. I felt like I was singing in front of my family."
Amit came into the limelight when he got a chance to sing the iconic song “Bulleya” from the film 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil'. He also won a Filmfare Award for new music talent. The singer also got a nomination for the same song at different award functions. He has also sung in a number of Telugu, Bengali, and Marathi films.
Talking about his favourite genre, he said, "I grew up in Lucknow and I opted for music as my optional subject. I used to attend my lectures in the morning and then used to give time to music in the evening."
He added further, "I was always fond of music, I was always fond of learning musical instruments. Music is the love of my life. As they say, we don’t choose music, we get chosen by music. Even my family members are quite obsessed with music. To be precise, I like folk music, I like to listen to ghazals and thumris”.
Apart from music, Mishra is also a huge cricket fan and following the fandom around the ongoing World Cup, he mentioned Sir Ravindra Jadeja as his favourite cricketer.
Amidst the music industry, there has been a debate going on over recreating the same songs which is also called “Remake”.
“I think remakes are the need of the hour. It’s the requirement. The youth wants a different type of music, a different sound and I think it’s appropriate”, Amit shared his thoughts.
Singers and music directors go in tandem to create magic for the audience. Amit has already worked with a few big names and on being asked who are his favourites, he said, “So there is a huge list but to name a few I would say Mr. A R Rahman sahab, Vishal-Shekhar sir are my favourite music directors to work with.”
Amit also spoke about his presence when it comes to Bollywood actors and like many he is a huge fan of Nana Patekar. He has grown up watching his cult acting.
“My favourite actor is Nana Patekar, Ranbir Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Varun Dhawan.” Apart from being Nana’s fan, he is obsessed with Jackie Shroff too.
“Let me tell you an interesting anecdote of Jackie Shroff, he was the first person who actually spoke about my voice. I caught up with him in a restaurant. We were doing lunch together and that is when he said, “iss ladke ka jo aawaz hai na wo mere bete Tiger keliye hai, iss ladke se Gana gawa.” He is a wonderful person and one of the living legends” Mishra stated.
Amit Mishra is a classically trained pianist and singer. His vocal contributions to Parthiv Shah's album "eternal love" helped him establish himself as a solo artist. Amit participated in Season 6 of MTV Unplugged as well.
