New Delhi: Actor Kamal Sadanah made his Bollywood debut with Kajol in the 1992 film ‘Bekhudi’. While Kajol went on to become one of the most successful actresses in the Hindi film industry, Kamal could not continue his journey as a mainstream hero due to a harrowing tragedy that left an indelible mark on his life. Kamal’s father, producer Brij Sadanah, shot his entire family and himself. While Kamal survived, his father, mother, and sister lost their lives.

Kamal Sadanah recounts the horrific incident
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kamal, who was shot in the neck by his father, bravely recounted the horrific incident.

“I have always looked at it that way… I was also shot, I had a bullet go through one side of my neck and come out on the other side of my neck and I have survived it. There’s no logical reason for me to survive. It’s almost as if the bullet dodged every nerve and came out on the other side. There’s a reason why I survived it. Let me move ahead and let me find that reason, let me live well,” he said in the interview.

What happened that day
Recalling the fateful day, which was also his birthday, Kamal recounted the chaotic moments of transporting his injured mother and sister to the hospital, unaware of his own gunshot wound. He underwent surgery to treat his injuries and returned home to the heartbreaking sight of his deceased family members.

“I carried my mother and my sister to the hospital while they were bleeding and at that time I didn’t realise that I was also shot. The hospital didn’t have enough beds so my friend took me to another hospital. I just told the doctor that you keep my mother and sister alive. I was also trying to check on my father. When I woke up after surgery, they took me home and I saw my whole family lying down dead in front of my eyes,” Kamal said.

“It was a bad incident that happened but it doesn’t mean that my entire childhood or my family in their entirety were bad people or my father was a bad person… doesn’t mean that,” he added.

Over the years, Kamal grappled with the aftermath and abstained from celebrating his birthday for a considerable period. His friends try to cheer him up on his birthdays.

Kamal continues to reside in the same house where the tragedy unfolded. “I am not the only person in the world who has seen tragedy. There are a lot of people in the world who have seen tragedy,” he said.

On the work front, Kamal was last seen in the film Pippa.
