New Delhi: Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is married to his childhood sweetheart, author-filmmaker Tahira Kashyap and they have two kids. Ayushmann recently shared that the two, who have been together since their school days, had broken up for six months after the actor won MTV Roadies.
In a conversation with Mashable Mehfil, Ayushmann recalled the time when he clinched the title in the second season of MTV Roadies in 2004. The newfound fame came with its set of challenges, particularly in navigating relationships. Khurrana confessed that the attention he received from other girls after his Roadies win prompted him to end his relationship with Tahira.
Ayushmann on breaking-up with Tahira Kashyap
Recalling the tumultuous phase, Khurrana expressed the difficulty of coping with fame during his late teens. “It is very difficult to deal with fame when you are 16, 17, and in your teens. I remember I broke up with my then-girlfriend because I was getting attention from other girls. I went through that phase when you’re just getting a taste of fame and popularity,” he said in Mashable Mehfil.
Following his victory, Khurrana became a prominent figure in his hometown of Chandigarh. The surge in popularity led to more opportunities and increased attention, ultimately influencing his decision to call off his relationship with Tahira as he yearned to explore life's possibilities.
“I was the most popular guy in Chandigarh at that time and I broke with Tahira saying that ‘I want to live my life’ but after 6 months I went back to her and told her ‘I can’t do this anymore, f*** boy nahi ban sakta main,” he said.
Tahira on her marriage with Ayushmann
In a 2020 interview with Spotboye, Tahira spoke about the rough patch of their marriage after the release of 'Vicky Donor'.
“I had a problem with him kissing on screen. I felt like a big, huge fat whale sitting at home. When you are pregnant your hormones also go up and down. Here this boy is looking at his youngest youth best and he is romancing women and what is this onscreen kiss! We both were very young. He didn’t have the time and patience to take me along and I didn’t have the patience to understand. There was this disconnect that we were not there for each other to take each other along in that journey. Somewhere he knew that she doesn’t mean mad. I also knew he wasn’t cheating. I had given up many times but he did not. He didn’t use to give up but he also didn’t make up... We both have really evolved as artists, as companions and we have seen a journey including cancer being a part of it. “
Khurrana and Tahira got married in 2008.
