New Delhi: Anupam Kher is set to portray Rabindranath Tagore in his next film. He released his first look earlier this month to mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike. Some, like actor Swastika Mukherjee, flatly rejected the idea of anyone playing Tagore. Many online users admired his appearance, while others criticised his appearance. Now, Anupam Kher has spoken about how he feels about the conflicting opinions of people and their criticism.

The name Rabindranath Tagore will forever be linked with Bengali literature. Even now, 82 years after his death, the poet is still very much present in Bengali culture. Anupam Kher is now getting into character as Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore for an upcoming film. Kher had already shown his first glimpse from the flick earlier this month.

In spite of the mixed responses the poster garnered, including criticism from some for accepting the part, the actor said he was unfazed by the backlash.

Talking to HT, Anupam said, "My look as Rabindranath Tagore went viral because of the work that my whole team has put in it. But I was very amused by some people saying, ‘Oh, leave Rabindranath Tagore alone, and nobody should do this’. I got to know about this reaction when my PR team sent it to me."

He continued, “Around 99% of the people who I sent the image asked me why I am sending them Tagore’s picture. There are 86,400 seconds in a day, and if someone says such things for 10 seconds, I will not waste my other seconds thinking about it.”

The actor explained why he thinks people express such nasty opinions. He said, “They want to be noticed by their negative views instead of their work."

Anupam Kher did not disclose any other details about the film.
