New Delhi: Ira Khan, Aamir Khan's daughter, has spoken publicly about her struggles with depression. She also said that although the divorce of her parents (Aamir and Reena Dutta) didn't impact her too much, she did observe significant personality changes. Ira was diagnosed with clinical depression more than five years ago, for those who are unaware. In a recent interview, Ira discussed the history of mental illness in her family. She is breaking the stigma around mental health by starting the Agastu Foundation.
Ira started the Agastu Foundation to aid those suffering from mental health problems, including depression. As for Aamir and Reena, Ira said they are on the part of the organisation's Advisory Board.
After being diagnosed with clinical depression five years ago, the star child recently spoke to the Times of India about her struggle and the love and care she got from her parents, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta.
Ira Khan reflected on her battles with depression and described how she underwent significant behavioural shifts. She said, “My mom pointed out that I didn’t want to be alive so I would just sleep my day away so that I would have fewer hours to live in a day.”
She was unaffected by her parent's divorce, but she was unable to overcome her constant sadness. Ira elaborated that she kept quiet about it since she didn't want anybody to worry about her. She said, “This period was one-and-a-half years. Then I stopped eating food for four days.”
Ira specifies that she does not suffer from anxiety but rather cyclical depression that occurs 'every 8-10 months’. “Every 8-10 months I will have a big crash. It’s partly genetic, partly psychological, and partly social. It took me a while to figure it out. But I have mental health disorders in my family. I also did not make healthy choices and I systematically walked into depression,” she said.
Ira is the second child of Aamir and Reena. Ira recently got engaged to her long-time boyfriend Nupur Shikhare.
