New Delhi: An arrest warrant has been issued against Malayalam Actor and producer Vijay Babu in connection with a case of sexual harassment.
A local court in Kochi has issued an arrest warrant against him as a prelude to requesting Interpol to issue a Red Notice. According to reports, Vijay left for Dubai on April 24, two days after the police complaint against him. Once a Red Corner Notice is issued, Dubai Police will be able to detain the actor and extradite him to India.
A Red Notice is issued by Interpol on request of law enforcers of a country to locate and provisionally arrest wanted criminals with the intention of extradition.
An actress in the Malayalam film industry accused Vijay Babu of assaulting and sexually exploiting her. The complainant has acted in several films produced by Vijay Babu. She has alleged that Vijay Babu sexually abused her on the promise of roles in his films. However, Vijay Babu claims innocence. In a Facebook Live session on April 26, he revealed the identity of the actress.
“I’m the real victim and hence revealing the complainant’s name. She sent around 400 messages saying she was under depression. I haven’t sent messages to her for the past one-and-a-half years,” the actor claimed. He also threatened a defamation case against the actress.
Police are not ruling out the chances of Vijay Babu crossing over to some other country, which does not have an agreement with India on extradition.
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court will hear his anticipatory bail plea on May 18.
