Congress MP Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on BJP in a poll rally in Karnataka's Mandya district on Wednesday. During the rally, Rahul criticised the BJP for allegedly favouring the wealthy and emphasised his party's commitment to farmers. He promised loan waivers akin to benefits given to billionaires by BJP-led government. He framed the election as a battle of ideologies with the Congress and I.N.D.I.A. bloc defending democracy against the BJP and RSS, whom he accused of undermining democratic institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Rahul Gandhi said, "BJP is filling their people in all institutions. BJP runs a government of 22 to 25 rich people. What Narendra Modi did for billionaires, we will do same for farmers by waiving off loans."
He stated that the Congress will run the government for common people, farmers and businessmen. "During Karnataka elections, we promised ‘five guarantees’ to the people, and I can proudly say that our government has delivered on all the promises that we made,” he said.
Stating that the election was a fight between two ideologies, Rahul Gandhi said, “On one side is the Congress party and I.N.D.I.A. bloc, which is fighting for the Indian Constitution and Democracy. On the other hand, we have the BJP and RSS which are trying to kill the Democracy and Constitution of the country. They are putting their people in every institution of the country.”
The Wayanad MP said that his party will introduce the 'Pehali Naukari Pakki' scheme, promising guaranteed first jobs for unemployed youth. He said, "I am here to tell the unemployed youth of Karnataka, Congress party is going to do a historic work for you, the name of the scheme is 'Pehali Naukari Pakki'. It means, that the youth who are unemployed, Congress is going to give them the right to the first job. If you are a diploma holder or graduate from college, Congress party is going to give you a right (right to the first job)."
