New Delhi: Addressing a rally in poll-bound Tripura, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the state is faced with the “triple trouble” of the Congress, CPI(M) and Tipra Motha, news agency PTI reported.
“If you want to be rescued from this 'triple trouble', vote for the double-engine BJP government,” Shah told a rally in Unakoti district.
The Home Minister also said that the Left, which ‘betrayed’ tribals for long in Tripura, is now projecting a tribal leader as the chief ministerial face to “dupe” the people.
It is to be noted that Jitendra Choudhury is among the top CPI(M) leaders from the tribal community. He is being seen as a leading contender for the chief ministerial post in case the Left-Congress alliance comes to power in Tripura.
Notably, the CPI(M) and the Congress will jointly be contesting the elections to the 60-member assembly, which will be held on February 16.
Amit Shah said the coming together of the Congress and the Left was an indication they have conceded defeat to the BJP ahead of the elections.
Congress and Left regimes in Tripura were marked with multiple scams, the minister further said.
The Union Minister also promised housing for the poor in Tripura by 2025.
Earlier, Amit Shah addressed another rally in Tripura’s Chandipur where he launched a blistering attack on the Congress and the Left.
"Congress and CPI(M) did nothing for Tripura. Development happened in Tripura under BJP’s rule. We worked for the development of everyone. Cong and CPI(M) did nothing for Adivasis and now to get votes for Adivasis they have chosen an Adivasi CM face," Amit Shah said.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed two rallies in poll-bound Tripura, giving a boost to the BJP's campaign, as he attacked the Left-Congress alliance in the state saying they have ignored the interests of the poor.
