Uttarakhand Polls: EC Orders Police To Register Case In 'Ballot Tampering' Video

On Tuesday, the EC received a written complaint from the Congress party after which it initiated action.

New Delhi: Two days after Congress general secretary Harish Rawat posted a video on social media of "ballot tampering", the Election Commission (EC) ordered the Pithoragarh police to register a case into the incident.

On Tuesday, the EC received a written complaint from the state Congress after which it initiated action.

A case in this regard has also been registered at the Didihat police station in Pithoragarh on behalf of Congress candidate from the Didihat assembly seat Pradeeppal.

While speaking to news agency ANI, State Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal said that they have lodged a complaint with Election Commission about the alleged ballot tampering incident during the assembly election held on February 14.

Harish Rawat on Tuesday had shared a video on his Twitter page urging action into the incident by the Election Commission.

"Sharing a short video for everyone's information. It shows how one man at an army centre is ticking and signing several ballot papers. Will the Election Commission take cognisance of this?" Rawat tweeted.

Reacting to the allegations by Rawat, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that Congress' defeat is imminent in the election due to which they are resorting to such tactics.

"The Congress is resorting to such tactics as it is aware that it has failed to mislead people. In the face of its imminent defeat the party which was talking earlier about manipulation of EVMs is now talking about ballot papers. It shows the party's frustration," Pradesh BJP media incharge Manveer Singh Chauhan was quoted by news agency PTI.

The polling for the 70-member state Assembly was held on February 14. The counting of votes is scheduled for March 10.
