New Delhi: Ahead of UP assembly elections, the Indian National Congress (INC) has fielded Neha Tiwari from Kalyanpur for the polls. Neha is the sister of Khushi Dubey, whose husband Amar Dubey was gunned down in an encounter with UP Police.
Amar was a close aide of gangster Vikas Dubey who had led the ambush that killed eight policemen in Kanpur’s Bikru village in July 2020.
Earlier, Khushi's mother Gayatri Tiwari was supposed to contest the election from Kalyanpur in Kanpur but she reportedly refused to contest the elections at the last moment.
Giving the reason on Gayatri for not contesting the polls, Congres said, "The tyrannical government which harassed Khushi Dubey fell to such an extent that as soon as Khushi's mother Gayatri Tiwari was given ticket, her name disappeared from the voter list, even though she was a voter for years. Now, Khushi's sister Neha Tiwari will contest in her place. The anti-women BJP will not be able to stop women's power".
Gayatri, an accused in the Bikru case, had recently joined the Congress. She had recently met party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, after which she was given a ticket so that Khushi Dubey can get "justice".
The family members of the police personnel who were martyred in the Bikru incident had then said that it was an insult to the martyrs. It is shameful to give tickets to the mother-in-law of Amar Dubey involved in the murder of eight police personnel.
What's the matter?
On July 2, 2020, Vikas Dubey along with his accomplices attacked a police team in Bikru village under the Chaubeypur police station area. Eight policemen, including CO Bilhaur, were killed. Later, Vikas Dubey and his five henchmen were gunned down in a police encounter. Khushi Dubey, the wife of Amar Dubey, was arrested by the police and sent to jail.
Congress said that two days before the Bikru incident, Khushi Dubey had come to her in-laws' house after getting married, but she was also put in jail. If she got married two days before the incident, how can she be involved in the crime committed by the husband, the party contended. Congress called for Khushi Dubey to get justice in the matter.
