New Delhi: Terrorists on Tuesday fired upon a policeman in the Amshipora area of Shopian district, the injured official was rushed to a hospital, news agency ANI reported.






According to inputs, the police personnel was identified as ASI Shabbir Ahmed.


The terrorists opened fire at him when ASI Shabbir Ahmed was returning from Mosque. Officials said that the attack on Shabbir Ahmed took place near his house. Ahmed was taken to a nearby hospital, from where he was referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.


Security forces cordoned off the area and the search to nab the terrorists involved is underway.

Incidents of terrorists targetting security officials and even civilians have been reported in the valley while the joint forces also continue to conduct operations to eliminate the notorious elements.


In a major success for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, a top self-styled commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was among five terrorists killed in two separate overnight encounters in Pulwama and Budgam districts of the valley recently.

JeM commander Zahid Wani was active since 2017 and was involved in several killings and recruitment of youths into terrorist ranks.

Four JeM terrorists were killed in the encounter in the Naira area of Pulwama in south Kashmir. One Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, who was identified as Bilal Ahmad Khan, a resident of Chill Brass Khansahab, was killed in Chrar-i-Sharief area of central Kashmir's Budgam, news agency PTI reported.
