'Door-To-Door Campaign Looked Like Roadshow': UP Police Register FIR Against Congress In Moradabad
Rizwan questioned the action of the police and said why no FIR was registered against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state despite holding several election campaigns.
New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday, registered a case against Congress leader Rizwan Qureshi for violating election model code of conduct in the state.
According to the FIR filed in Moradabad, the police said that a "roadshow-like situation" emerged during Congress leader Rizwan Qureshi's door-to-door campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, which was a violation of the code of conduct.
"Congress candidate Rizwan had taken permission for a door-to-door campaign but it was seen that a roadshow-like situation had emerged with people atop of the car with him. As per Sector Magistrate's complaint, a case has been registered," Moradabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesh Bhadoria said in a press meet.
While speaking to news agency ANI, Rizwan questioned the action of the police and said why no FIR was registered against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state despite holding several election campaigns. He also pointed out to the rallies carried out by Home Minister Amit Shah and deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Handa.
"Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma held a door-to-door meeting a few days ago. In Meerut, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held door-to-door campaigns, why no FIR against them? Not our fault if people welcome us with unconditional love during the door-to-door campaigns. BJP is scared, which is why this politics is happening," said Qureshi.
A Congress candidate from Moradabad assembly constituency, Qureshi was doing a door-to-door campaign along with the party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra when crowd swelled. Several people were also seen atop Qureshi's car with him after which an FIR was lodged by the Moradabad police.
Voting for the first phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh was held on February 10. As many as 2.27 crore voters cast their vote in 58 assembly constituencies of Jat-dominated west Uttar Pradesh. The voting process was peaceful and no incidents of violence were reported.
The second phase of the seven-phase Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held on February 14. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
