New Delhi: After most of the exit polls predicted a clear majority for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, AAP leader Raghav Chadha said people of the state overwhelmingly voted for change.

Raghav Chadha said AAP was now a national and fastest-growing political party.

"Exit poll results tell us that people of Punjab have overwhelmingly voted for change. People rejected traditional political parties. AAP is now a national & fastest-growing political party. AAP is going to be national and natural replacement of Congress," ANI quoted Raghav Chadha as saying.

Several exit polls have predicted a big win for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP in Punjab.

Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav congratulated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday and hoped that his party would live up to the "huge expectations" of the people of the state.

"The only firm conclusion that we can draw from exit polls so far is about Punjab. Clearly it's an AAP wave with a thumping majority. Congratulations to @AamAadmiParty and @ArvindKejriwal," Yadav, a former AAP leader and a noted psephologist, tweeted.

"Really hope they live up to the huge expectations of the people of Punjab," he further said.

However, Sunil Jakhar of the Congress Party attempted to downplay the forecasts. When asked about the exit poll's projection, Congress leader Jhakar said, "Let's just wait for three more days as the situation will be clear on March 10."
