New Delhi: In an apparent dig at the Congress leadership, the party’s Punjab unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the “people at the top” want a weak Chief Minister who can dance to their tunes.
The statement comes as the Congress party is set to announce its chief ministerial face in Punjab on February 6.
“If a New Punjab has to be made, it is in the hands of the CM… You have to choose the CM this time. If it's an honest man at the top, the same will trickle down. If you make a thief (chor) sit at the top, then all goes to ruin,” he said.
“People at the top want a weak Chief Minister who can dance to their tunes. Do you want such a CM,” the Punjab Congress chief added, following which his supporters called for Sidhu to become the next CM.
As the statement raised eyebrows, Navjot Singh Sidhu took to Twitter and alleged that his words were being “distorted”.
Meanwhile, ahead of the announcement on the Congress party’s chief ministerial face, the PPCC president’s wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, said that her husband is “a hero” and it does not matter whom the party chooses as its face in the state polls.

Earlier, Charanjit Channi on Thursday informed that the name of the Congress chief ministerial candidate for Punjab assembly election will be announced on February 6.
Punjab is set to go to polls on February 20. The counting of votes will take place on March 10 along with four other poll-bound states.
