Amid the political commotion in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Congress MLA Sanjay Shukla stole a moment of breath as he was seen touching the feet of his contender, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya during a programme in Indore. In a video that is now being widely shared on social media, the Congress MLA could be seen walking towards Vijayvargiya, who was present at an event in Indore, and touched his feet. Notably, Vijayvargiya has been given a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party from Indore-1 assembly constituency from where Shukla is the present MLA. Congress is yet to release its list of candidates for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls while the ruling BJP has already announced two lists of candidates.
Madhya Pradesh is due to undergo polls this year along with Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Telangana.
In a blow to Congress in MP, its Sachin Birla on Sunday joined the BJP in presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The 40-year-old first time MLA from Barwaha constituency in Khargone district took the membership of the saffron party during a function at the party's state office in Bhopal
He had crossed over to the BJP in October 2021 but did not give up membership of the legislature. The Congress did not expel him either. Birla won the Barwaha seat during the 2018 assembly polls due to the support of Gurjar voters and other backward communities.
