The leadership of the Congress party engaged in deliberations on Friday regarding potential candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh and Telangana assembly elections. According to former chief minister Kamal Nath, the party is poised to unveil its initial list of nominees in MP on October 15, with a focus on rejuvenating its prospects in the state.
The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress held distinct meetings to strategise for the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, scheduled for November 17 and 30, respectively. The deliberations, conducted under the guidance of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, also had Rahul Gandhi in attendance.
The Madhya Pradesh session saw the participation of AICC general secretary in-charge for the state, Randeep Surjewala, and Kamal Nath, who have assumed pivotal roles in the party's campaign in the state, according to news agency PTI. In the Telangana meeting, state party president Revanth Reddy and AICC general secretary K C Venugopal contributed to the discussions.
On the subject of candidate nominations, both Surjewala and Kamal Nath said that the party plans to release its initial list for MP on the first day of Navratri, which falls on October 15. The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister shared that the party's screening committee had already discussed candidates for approximately 60 seats, and further discussions were anticipated, PTI reported.
In a post on social media, Mallikarjun Kharge underscored the party's mission in Telangana, stating, "The unholy nexus between BRS, BJP and AIMIM needs to be defeated in Telangana to usher all-around progress and unhindered welfare. People of Telangana know that it is only and only the Congress party which can bring the much-needed change in their lives. Today, the Central Election Committee discussed the strategy for Assembly Elections in Telangana."
Kharge further emphasised the significance of the Madhya Pradesh elections, asserting, "In Madhya Pradesh, youth, women, Dalits, tribals and backward classes are going to get justice in a few days. There will be a complete stop to the BJP's injustice, atrocities and corrupt misgovernance of the last 18 years." His statements resonated with the conviction that the public's voice will not permit the formation of an undemocratic BJP government through any backdoor manoeuvres.
People Of Madhya Pradesh Have Understood BJP’s 20,000 False Announcements: Kamal Nath
Following the extensive deliberations, AICC general secretary in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, Randeep Surjewala, expressed the party's determination towards victory in the state. He highlighted the growing discontent among the people of Madhya Pradesh, referencing several alleged scandals that have recently come to light, including a tribal scam case worth Rs 10 crore, PTI reported.
"The budget of the tribals of Madhya Pradesh has been eaten away, the BJP has eaten up crores of rupees.... We are not saying this, their audit reports which have been released today are saying this. In Madhya Pradesh, political people of BJP and their officials were embezzling crores of rupees from the budget of tribals by making fake bills," Surjewala said, as quoted by PTI.
"On one side is the false promises made by the BJP and on the other side the Congress led by Kamal Nath is promising to cancel all fake FIRs, 100 units of free power and half rate for another 100 units, Rs 1500 pension to women...," he added.
In response to the BJP's critique of the Congress' promises, Kamal Nath claimed the people's growing disillusionment with the former's false assurances, and the hope for tangible relief from the challenges they face, as per PTI. The citizens of Madhya Pradesh, he noted, are weary of empty pledges and await genuine solutions to their problems.
As the Congress gears up for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, the political landscape in the state promises to be dynamic and charged with expectations. The announcement of candidate nominations on October 15 will be a significant milestone in this electoral journey.
