LS Polls Phase 7: Stray incidents of violence in West Bengal; BJP mandal president allegedly attacked in Jadavpur

New Delhi: Sporadic incidents of violence were reported in West Bengal in the final phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2019, the major ones coming from Jadavpur and Basirhat constituencies. BJP MP candidate Anupam Hazra levelled a number of allegations on TMC workers. He accused the party workers of beating BJP mandal president and a driver. He accused that the “goons” of TMC are not letting people cast their votes. He alleged that female TMC workers with covered faces are casting proxy votes in booth number 150/137 in Jadavpur. “TMC goons have beaten up a BJP mandal president, a driver and vandalised a car. We also rescued our three polling agents,” he said. He said that TMC goons were going to carry out rigging at 52 booths. “People are eager to vote for BJP but they are not being allowed to cast their votes.” He said “Female TMC workers with covered faces are casting proxy votes, it is difficult to establish their identity. When we raised objection to it, they created a ruckus at the polling station.” In Basirhat, additional forces were called at polling station number 189. BJP candidate from the constituency Sayantan Basu alleged that TMC workers are not allowing people to cast their vote. He said: “100 people were stopped from voting. We will take them to cast their vote." Voters also held protests outside polling station number 189 in Basirhat, alleging that TMC workers are not allowing them to cast their vote. BJP candidate for Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, Nilanjan Roy's car was also vandalised in Dongaria area of the constituency. Stone-pelting:  Stones were pelted at BJP's Kolkata North candidate Rahul Sinha near a polling station at Park Circus area here on Sunday. The leader escaped unharmed. A camera person of a local news channel though sustained minor injury to the head in the incident. According to state BJP sources, Sinha was attacked while coming out of a polling station near Park Circus Bridge where polling was going on for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP leader was safely escorted out of the area by the security personnel and central force officials after the incident.
