A day after protests by activists of CPI(M)'s student wing SFI against BJP candidate G Krishnakumar for Kollam Lok Sabha seat, police have registered two cases against multiple persons in connection with the protests. Krishnakumar encountered the protests during his visit to an educational institution in the district for campaigning.
On Wednesday, TV channels aired visuals depicting SFI activists shouting slogans against the BJP as Krishnakumar arrived at the campus. This escalated into a clash between Left students and ABVP activists.
Later, cases were filed based on two complaints, one by a BJP member and another by ABVP activists. They alleged offenses including unlawful assembly, rioting with weapons, and causing harm to members of both organizations by the accused individuals.
Seven persons have been booked by the police for various offenses under the IPC, including unlawful assembly, rioting, rioting with weapons, wrongful restraint, use of obscene language and gestures, and voluntarily causing harm.
An officer from the Kundara police station, where the cases were filed, stated that the accused individuals had been summoned to provide their statements.
Krishnakumar, a former actor turned politician, strongly condemned the protests against him on Wednesday while visiting the campus of the Industrial Training Institute at Chandanthope. He was accompanied by members of the BJP and ABVP during his visit.
