New Delhi: The All India Trinamool Congress filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, accusing him of illegal interference in the upcoming General Elections to the Lok Sabha in 2024. The party alleged that Bose has been attempting to establish a "parallel office" resembling that of the ECI, which they deem as a violation of electoral norms.
TMC Raises Concern Over Bengal Governor's 'Log Sabha' Portal
TMC raised concerns over alleged interference by West Bengal Governor. Following the Election Commission of India's announcement on March 16, 2024, regarding the election schedule, reports emerged of Governor Bose launching a portal named 'Log Sabha' purportedly for direct communication with the public during the electoral process.
Details of this initiative were disseminated through Governor Bose's official Twitter handle. The TMC has brought this matter to the forefront, questioning the propriety of such actions during an election period and urging the Election Commission to look into it.
According to a report of India Today, TMC called the Governor's actions 'ultra vires' to the Constitution, the Mamata Banerjee-led party went on to further state that the addition of an extra mechanism such as 'Log Sabha' not only undermines the powers of the ECI and takes away its set-up to address grievances, but further leads to unnecessary confusion amongst the masses.
Polling in West Bengal will be held in all seven phases, across 42 constituencies, from April 19 to June 1.
