Lok Sabha Elections: The Lok Sabha elections are underway, and the first phase of polling took place on April 19 (Friday). The second phase of the ongoing polls is set to take place on April 26. Voting will take place across India in seven phases till June 1, while counting will take place on June 4. 


As the citizens gear up to vote to elect their representatives to the Parliament, voter ID card becomes utmost important for the people to exercise their franchise. According to the Election Commission, citizens can participate in the polling process and vote even if they have lost the physical copy of their voter ID card.


A valid voter ID card is issued by the EC. It has a unique 10-digit alphanumeric Electoral Photo Identity Card Number. The card serves as the primary identification document for citizens exercising their voting rights during the elections.


How To Vote Without Voter ID Card ?


1) Check Your Eligibility 


A citizen of India above the age of 18 is eleigible to vote in Lok Sabha Elections 


2) Carry Required Documents  


The citizens who have lost their Voter ID card need to obtain the printout of the election slip. Voters who have lost their voter ID cards can carry one of these documents to the polling booth: 



  • Passport

  • Aadhaar card

  • PAN card

  • Driving license

  • MNREGA card

  • ID cards of Central and state government employees

  • Pension cards with a photograph


3) Check Your Name On Official Voter List


To check his/her name in the official voter list, the citizen needs to visit the official website of the ECI. Follow these steps: 



  • Click on 'search in electoral roll'

  • Select the state and language

  • Fill in relevant details and enter the captcha code

  • Hit search to find your name in the list


If the citizen is not able to find in the official voter list, he/she can register themselves either through the online mode or the offline mode.


Online Mode:


For online registration, the citizens need to fill out 'Form 6'. The voters are required to provide personal details and uplod required documents. Once the formalities are done, the eligible voter needs to submit the form and track the status of the application with the help of the reference number. 


Offline Mode


For offline registration, voters are required to obtain Form 6 from either the Electoral Registration Offices or Booth Level Officers. The voters are required to keep documents such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, utility bill, ration card and birth certificate with them while filling out the offline form.
