Delhi News: Chaos erupted in the national capital after a biryani seller in Jahangirpuri was found serving biryani on disposable plates carrying a photo of Lord Ram. The incident came to light on Sunday after local Hindu organisations noticed Lord Ram's photo on the plates kept at the biryani shop.
According to a report in India Today, the vendor was questioned about the issue after people who were served biryani on plates with Lord Ram's photo, were seen discarding the plates in the trash after use. After the matter escalated, police arrived at the scene, and a packet of four plates featuring Lord Ram's photo was recovered.
A video surfaced on social media in which the vendor can be seen serving biryani on plates that had photos of Lord Ram. After the incident came to light, local people and members of Bajrang Dal expressed disapproval towards the shop owner and complained to the police. According to Times Now, the vendor was taken into custody.
During investigations, it was found that the shopkeeper had bought 1000 plates from a factory and only four of them had a picture of Lord Ram printed on them, a police officer said. "He told us that he was not aware about the Lord Ram's pic on the plates, which was also verified by the factory owners," the officer said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
"When a team reached the spot, a few persons were found protesting outside the shop. They were pacified after the assurance of a proper investigation into the matter," a police officer said. According to PTI, the shopkeeper was detained under IPC sections 107/151 (preventive detention) and later allowed to go, the officer said. He further stated that the plates were also seized. As per the officer, no case has been registered as yet and the matter is being investigated.
