PM Modi, Amit Shah Urge People To 'Vote In Record Numbers' Ahead Of LS Phase 5 Polls

Taking to his X handle, PM Narendra Modi urged all citizens in constituencies "polling today to vote in record numbers.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged all citizens to cast their vote ahead of the phase five of the Lok Sabha polls. In this phase, 49 Lok Sabha constituencies covering 8 states and two Union Territories will be going into polls. Taking to his X handle, PM Modi urged those constituencies polling today to "vote in record numbers.”

“As 49 seats across 8 states and UTs go to the polls today in the 5th phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, urging all those whose constituencies are polling today to vote in record numbers. I specially call upon women voters and young voters to exercise their franchise”, PM Modi tweeted. 

He also sent out the message in multiple languages including Hindi, Odia, Bangla, and Marathi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also urged voters to exercise their franchise. 

"I appeal to all the people who are going to cast their votes in the fifth phase of the polling today to elect a visionary leadership that will continue to enhance the pride of the nation," he posted on X.  

In this phase, 5 seats in Bihar, 1 seat in Jammu And Kashmir, 3 seats in Jharkhand, 1 in Ladakh, 13 seats in Maharashtra, 5 seats in Odisha, 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh and 7 seats in West Bengal are set to go to polls. A total of 695 candidates from 8 states and Union Territories are in fray in this phase.

The key seats going into the fifth phase of polls today are Amethi, Raebareli, Mumbai, Lucknow, Thane, Baramulla, and Kaiserganj. The electoral process started with the first phase on April 19. The counting of votes are set to take place on June 4. Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
