PM Modi To Meditate At Vivekananda's Landmark In TN After Poll Campaign Ends On May 30, Cong Fumes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meditate at Rock Memorial, a monument built in tribute to Swami Vivekananda, in Kanyakumari following the culmination of the Lok Sabha polls campaign on May 30, BJP leaders said on Tuesday. The Congress' Tamil Nadu unit said the Election Commission should not grant permission for the PM's programme, as the model code of conduct was in force. Such a move was an attempt at indirect campaigning after the end of canvassing of votes, TNCC chief K Selvaperunthagai alleged.

The PM will meditate from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1 at Dhyan Mandapam, the place where Vivekananda -- a spiritual icon admired by Modi -- is believed to have had a divine vision about 'Bharat Mata', BJP leaders said.

The prime minister had gone on a similar meditation exercise in a Kedarnath cave after the 2019 poll campaign.         Party functionaries said Modi's decision to pick the spot in Kanyakumari for his spiritual sojourn underscores his commitment to bringing to fruition Vivekananda's vision for the country.

He has been sounding confident about returning to power for a third term after the votes are counted on June 4. The last phase of polling is scheduled for June 1. Campaigning for polls ends two days before elections.         The rock, where the prime minister will meditate, had a major impact on Vivekananda's life and holds a similar significance in the monk's life as Sarnath for Gautam Buddha, they said.

Lok Sabha Elections: Kharge Says PM Ran Divisive Campaign; I.N.D.I.A Bloc Will Give Country Inclusive, Nationalistic Govt

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday expressed confidence that people will give a mandate to an alternative government on June 4 and said the INDIA bloc will form an inclusive and nationalistic government by securing a clear majority.

On the last day of the Lok Sabha polls campaign, he also accused Modi of running a divisive campaign, claiming the prime minister used 'mandir-masjid' and divisive issues 421 times and words like Muslim, Pakistan and minority 224 times.

People have endorsed their view that "it will be the end of democracy if the current government gets another chance", Kharge said while addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here.

He also said that after INDIA bloc's "victory", the decision on the prime minister will be taken on the basis of talks with the constituents of the INDIA bloc.

"We are confident that on June 4, 2024, the people of the country will give a mandate to a new alternative government. The INDIA bloc will form the government with a clear majority," the Congress president said.

"Together, we will give this country an inclusive, nationalist and development-oriented government on the lines of the UPA I and II (United Progressive Alliance), and will move forward taking everyone along," he said.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 LIVE: Akhilesh Yadav Mocks PM Modi Over Visit To Kanyakumari For Meditation

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his visit to Kanyakumari for meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.

Addressing a poll rally in Maharajganj where SP ally Congress' candidate Virendra Chaudhary is in the fray, he also claimed that it would be difficult for the BJP to win even 140 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

Taking a jibe over the BJP's '400 paar' slogan, Yadav said, "They have forgotten their slogan of crossing 400. People are so angry that they will make it difficult for the BJP to win even 140 seats." Yadav also held a poll meeting in Ghosi Lok Sabha seat of Mau district in support of party candidate Rajeev Rai.

He mocked Modi's references in his speeches to eating meat and fish, mujra, and Mahatma Gandhi. "And, now it is heard that he has come to know about the results in advance and has reached some place to do meditation," Yadav said.

"This time people of Mau will not spare him. When results will come, he (Modi) will say that there was some shortcomings in his tapasya," the SP chief said. (PTI Input)
