Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live: Uddhav Thackeray Says BJP Planning To Ban RSS

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party was planning to ban its ideological parent, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), after winning a third term in power.


Speaking at his last rally here before the campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections ended in Maharashtra, Thackeray also said that the Election Commissioner who was "acting like Modi's servant" will be removed after the INDIA alliance government comes to power.


"The way they tried to use and throw the Shiv Sena, a similar game will be played by Narendra Modi in future (with the RSS), and that has been stated by (BJP president J P) Nadda," he said.


Thackeray was referring to Nadda's comments to a newspaper that when the BJP was a small party and less capable, it needed the RSS, but now the saffron party has grown, become more capable, and "runs itself".


"Nadda said there was a need of the RSS until now, (but) we are capable now and we don't need the RSS. If they (BJP) came to power, it is a bigger danger for RSS workers because they will ban the RSS," Thackeray claimed. (PTI Input)

DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi, while talking about pre-poll violence in Ganjam, Odisha stated that there was a case of murder under which all nine accused were arrested. 


"We have formed an SIT to look into the case and at the same time apprehend the other accused, close the investigation early, and submit the chargesheet within 30 days so that the trial commences. The SIT will be reviewed by IGP Southern Range. ADGP R. K. Sharma will be kept at Chhatrapur where he will oversee the law and order situation during the election process."


Sarangi also said that 20 companies of CAPF were deployed in Ganjam. "We have a zero-tolerance policy for violence," he added.

PM Narendra Modi's Rally In Northeast Delhi, Over 2,000 Police Personnel On Ground


In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in northeast Delhi on Saturday, the local police has beefed up security near the rally ground and slated a deployment of a 2,000-personnel strong force on the day. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, along with other senior officers on Friday visited the northeast district and took stock of the security arrangements.


A senior officer said Modi is likely to arrive at the rally site by a chopper after addressing another election rally in Sonipat in Haryana.Meetings were done with other agencies responsible for the PM's security. We are identifying buildings and trees on all possible routes where police personnel can be deployed to keep a strict vigil on all activities, the officer said, as per news agency PTI.


A Delhi Development Authority ground at pushta number 4 of Yamuna Khadar has been selected as the venue for the election gathering. The ground is in the Ghonda assembly, which is a part of the northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency. The rally will likely begin at 4 pm. Robust security arrangements have been made. More than 2,000 police personnel along with paramilitary forces deployment will be made to maintain law and order situation, said the officer.


Rahul Gandhi To Hold Public Meeting In Delhi On May 18


 Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will hold a public meeting at the Ramlila ground in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar on Saturday.Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a rally in northeast Delhi on the same day.Congress' interim Delhi chief Devender Yadav took stock of the arrangements for the meeting in the Wazirpur assembly segment of the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee said in a statement.He appealed to Congress workers and leaders to make the public meeting a grand success.


Yadav also instructed the leaders and workers in charge of the meeting to make arrangements for seating, water and transport to ensure comfort for the public.It will be Gandhi's first public campaign meeting for Congress and INDIA bloc candidates in Delhi, the statement said.Jai Prakash Aggarwal is contesting from Chandni Chowk on a Congress ticket against the BJP's Praveen Khandelwal.
