Congress Lok Sabha List: The Congress party on Tuesday revealed its Jharkhand candidates for three additional Lok Sabha constituencies in - Godda, Chatra, and Dhanbad. AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal announced that Legislator Deepika Pandey Singh, Krishna Nand Tripathi, and Anupama Singh would vie for the seats in Godda, Chatra, and Dhanbad, respectively.
Deepika Pandey To Challenge BJP MP Nishikant Dubey In Godda
Deepika Pandey Singh will challenge sitting BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in Godda, while Anupama Singh, spouse of Bermo MLA Kumar Jaimangal Singh, will contest against BJP's Baghmara legislator Dulu Mahto in Dhanbad. Notably, the BJP has replaced its incumbent MP Pashupati Nath Singh in Dhanbad with Mahato, who faces multiple criminal charges and previously served as an MLA under the Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (JVM).
Deepika Pandey is a legislator from the Mahagama assembly constituency, which falls within the Godda parliamentary constituency. She has also served as the district president of the Godda Congress.
Notably, K N Tripathi is a former minister who previously contested for the position of National President of the Congress which saw Mallikarjun Kharge emerge victorious. He was elected as a legislator from the Daltonganj constituency in the 2009 assembly elections. Tripathi, on the other hand, will be up against BJP's Kalicharan Singh for the Chatra seat.
This announcement follows the March 27 declaration of Kalicharan Munda, Sukhdeo Bhagat, and Jai Prakashbhai Patel as candidates for Khunti (ST), Lohardaga (ST), and Hazaribagh constituencies.
The fresh list comes as Singhbhum BJP candidate Geeta Kora on Sunday claimed that people affiliated with a 'particular party' in Jharkhand attacked her convoy during an election campaign at a village in Seraikela-Kharswan district, leading to injuries to some of her party members.
A group of villagers, carrying bows and arrows, protested against Kora at Gamharia and Manoharpur villages, news agency PTI reported. They blamed the Congress turncoat, who has now switched to BJP, for being absent for the past five years, PTI cited eyewitnesses as saying.
