Karnataka has 28 Lok Sabha seats, which could potentially have a significant role in achieving a majority in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. With a substantial influence on the national political landscape, the Karnataka elections of 2024 appear to be a high-stakes struggle.
Ahead of the general assembly elections, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) formed an alliance with former PM H.D. Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular). Earlier this month, Gowda stated that the seat-sharing deal between Janata Dal (Secular) and BJP is in the final stages and will be finalised in about a week’s time.
However, in recent times, political parties have been engaged in a slamming contest over the Rameshwaram cafe blast, pro-Pakistan slogan, and Bengaluru water crisis. With the March 1 blast at Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Café that injured 10 people, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has slammed the ruling Congress government, calling it a law-and-order failure. Basavaraj Bommai, a senior BJP politician and former chief minister, has stated that "taking this incident lightly would be like encouraging terrorists". He connected the explosion to pro-Pakistan slogans raised in the Karnataka Assembly, implying that a "sleeper cell" was behind it. Simultaneously, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress chief, has compared the incident to the 2022 Mangalore explosion, which occurred under the BJP government's watch.
