Karnataka witnessed a remarkable voter turnout of 73.19% in the Assembly polls, according to election officials who shared the final figures on Thursday. The voting, which took place on Wednesday, aimed to elect representatives for the 224-member House.

The Chief Electoral Office of Karnataka announced, "Karnataka has created a new record for itself. Final voter turnout for Karnataka Election 2023 stands at 73.19%."

Among the districts, Chikkaballapura recorded the highest voter turnout of 85.56%, followed closely by Bengaluru Rural at 85.08%. On the other hand, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) South limits, encompassing parts of Bengaluru city, witnessed the lowest turnout at 52.33%, as per the official data.

The Election Commission (EC) reported, "Largely peaceful voting in all 224 Assembly constituencies in Karnataka, and no repoll indicated in any of the 58,545 polling stations," on Wednesday night.

Notably, the top five districts with higher voter turnout are all from the Old Mysuru region, considered the stronghold of the Janata Dal (Secular) JD(S) and the Congress. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has comparatively less influence in this region and has been making consistent efforts to gain ground.

Following Chikkaballapura and Bengaluru Rural, the three districts with high voter turnout were Ramanagara (85.04%), Mandya (84.45%), and Tumakuru (83.58%).

In the 2018 Assembly polls, Karnataka recorded a 72.44% voter turnout, resulting in a hung assembly, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats, falling short of a majority. The voter turnout in the 2013 polls was 71.83%.

ABP-CVoter Exit Poll Prediction: Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023

ABP-CVoter exit poll suggested that the Congress, the main opposition party in Karnataka, is on the brink of achieving a simple majority in the state. Contrary to earlier projections and political analysts' forecasts, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is performing better than expected but is unlikely to retain power. The Janata Dal (Secular), the third contender, is projected to be a distant third and risks becoming a marginal player in the state.

According to the ABP-CVoter Exit Poll data, Congress is expected to win between 100 and 112 seats in the elections. A simple majority in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly requires 113 seats. In the previous 2018 Assembly elections, the Congress secured 80 seats. The exit poll data shows that Congress is projected to receive 41.1% of the vote share, marking a 3.1% increase compared to the 2018 elections.

A surprising revelation lies in the projected performance of the ruling BJP. Earlier ABP-CVoter opinion polls conducted in March and April had indicated strong anti-incumbency sentiments against the BJP government. However, the party appears to have made a recovery.

The exit poll data projects the BJP to secure between 83 and 95 seats, while in 2018, the party won 104 seats. The projected vote share for the BJP stands at 38.3%, a 2.3% improvement from its 2018 vote share of 36%.

The JD(S) seems to be the losing party, with a projected vote share decline of 3.4% compared to 2018. The party is expected to win between 21 and 29 seats, with a vote share of 14.6%.
