The Congress on Thursday released its sixth and final list of five candidates for the impending Karnataka assembly elections. This comes after the party replaced Mohammed Yousuf Savanur as its candidate from the Shiggaon constituency in Karnataka, currently under Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai, and fielded Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan instead from there on Wednesday.


In the final list, Mohammed Shalem was fielded from Raichur, BV Rajeev Gowda from Sidlaghatta, S Anand Kumar from C V Raman Nagar (SC), HP Sridhar Gowda from Arkalgud, and Inayath Ali from Mangalore City North.






Bommai defeated Congress candidate Sayed Azeempeer Khadri Shiggaon in the 2018 elections.


The party released its fifth list on Wednesday featuring three new candidates wherein B C Muddugangadhar was fieled from the Mulbagal (SC) seat, D K Mohan from K R Pura, and A C Srinivasa from the Pulakeshinagar, a reserved seat for Schedule Caste candidates.


With the sixth list, the Congress has announced 223 candidates, marking one seat in the 224-member assembly for Sarvodaya Karnataka Party, a regional outfit, as per PTI.

Karnataka Election 2023: Congress Star Campaigners


Notably, the Congress on Wednesday released the list of star campaigners for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections on May 10. Party leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, and party MP Shashi Tharoor are among the ones who will be campaigning in the poll-bound state. The list has a total of 40 names who will be campaigning for the state.


The list also has names of other Congress hotshots including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Karnataka party chief DK Shivakumar, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah, AICC in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh counterparts Bhupesh Baghel and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, apart from others. However, the name of Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot did not feature on the list.

The last date for filing nominations is April 20.


The assembly polls in the state held by BJP will take place on May 10 and the results will be announced on May 13.
