Jai Ram Thakur is a veteran BJP leader and the current Chief Minister of Gujarat. Hailing from a humble background, Jai Ram Thakur was exposed to politics during his college days with his affiliations with the ABVP. From there he went on to hold key positions in different units of ABVP, Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha as well as the Himachal Pradesh BJP unit. He won the assembly elections for the first time in 1998 from the Seraj (previously Chachiot) constituency. He was re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2012, and 2017 from the same seat.
