Former CM Bhupinder Hooda expressed confidence in a Congress victory as he told news agency ANI, "I have been saying this since we started campaigning that there is a wave in favour of Congress. Congress will form a government with a thumping majority...The main factor was our achievements from 2005-2014 and the failure of the BJP government from 2014-2024- corruption and non-performance. We will work on unemployment, education and security..."
Regarding the top post, he remarked, "It (CM post) is everyone's right...This is democracy. Whatever decision the High Command takes we will accept this...She (Kumari Selja) is our senior leader..."

Kumari Selja tells ABP News, "We are forming the govt in Haryana with an absolute majority". She attributed three factors that led to the Congress' 'brilliant' results including:
1. Rahul Gandhi's work across India and his Bharat Jodo Yatras
2. BJP's anti-incumbency. BJP was nowhere to be seen
3. Efforts of the grassroots workers.
"CM will be decided by the Congress high command.... Kumari Selja could be one of the names in consideration [for CM's post]. Only time will say, who will be CM," she remarked.
About rumoured competition with Bhupinder Singh Hooda, she said: "We both are seniors. So it's alright."
Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini after exit polls, "BJP will form the government with full majority. We are confident."
BJP state president Mohanlal Badoli commented on the exit polls, saying, "No matter what the exit polls say, the BJP will form the government for the third time with a majority." He added, "Bhupinder Hooda will be happy for two days, but after that, the government will be formed under the leadership of Nayab Singh Saini."

Predictions for the Haryana assembly polls will be unveiled shortly
Congress leader and wrestler Bajrang Punia said that the Congress government should come into power next in the state. "Today there is a lack of employment in Haryana. The government that was in power from 2005-2014, every section of the society developed. In the last 10 years, be it sportspersons, farmers, soldiers, or whoever raised their voice, they were lathi-charged...Congress government should be brought to power in Haryana," Bajrang Punia said while speaking to ANI.
Haryana Congress quips as voting ends for the state assembly election, "Friends, the ticket for BJP's departure has been handed."
Will the ruling BJP secure a third consecutive term or the Congress mak a comeback? The exit poll predictions on ABP News.
The exit of the old faces has given an opportunity to 60 new candidates. Leaders like Manju Hooda, Captain Yogesh Bairagi, and Krishan Kumar are in the fray.
Caste features at the top of the list of issues in the Haryana elections. While the BJP is likely to lose some Jat votes, owing to its split with the JJP, it is consolidating its General category vote base. Most of its candidates come from the Brahmin, Rajput, Baniya, Punjabi and Khatri communities. These communities together comprise nearly 50% of the population of Haryana.
The anti-incumbency against the BJP is sure to help the Congress. The breakdown of the BJP-JJP alliance and the exodus of MLAs and other heavyweight leaders from BJP and JJP are what Congress can cash on. The division of Jat and Dalit votes between the JJP-ASP and INLD-BSP alliances is a big opportunity for the Congress.

The division of Jat and Dalit votes between the JJP-ASP and INLD-BSP alliances is a big opportunity for the Congress.
After nine years in power, the BJP faces an anti-incumbency wave in Haryana. The farmers' protests can definitely dent the BJP's chances.
The BJP severed ties with Dushyant Chautala's JJP in March. This led to the fall of the Manohar Lal Khattar government just before the Lok Sabha elections. The impact of the breakup was seen in the Parliamentary polls as well as BJP lost 5 of the 10 seats it held. Its vote share dropped as well by nearly 12%. If the BJP fails to pick up its momentum, it can kiss its chance at a hat-trick in Haryana goodbye.
The BJP looking at a return to power for a third straight term. The saffron party this year will be banking on its ability to bounce back. Earlier in March, the party managed to stay in power after a major crisis when its alliance with the JJP broke.
The BJP's women-centric election campaigns across India, which it extended to Haryana, have made it popular among women voters.
With unemployment being a big issue in Haryana, the BJP has promised in its manifesto to set up 10 industrial cities and generate employment for 50,000 youths in each zone.
The BJP has been focusing on sports over the last few years. After Neeraj Chopra, also from Haryana, won back-to-back Olympic medals and Gold in several global events, the BJP has been harping on its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). Now, the BJP has promised to set up 'Olympic Nurseries' in every district of Haryana if it comes to power.
The most prominent weakness of the Congress is factionalism. Bhupinder Singh Hooda's alleged rift with incumbent Sirsa MLA Kumari Selja over the distribution of tickets is a chink in the Congress's armour.
Congress's non-fulfilment of its poll promises when it was in power has been raked up by the BJP several times. The BJP also remarked that the Congress's promise of providing Rs 2,000 to women in the state is fake since it "did not fulfil a similar promise in Himachal Pradesh".
In the 2024 Haryana polls, Congress's chances appear to be good. The party has managed to hold onto its flock. It is backed by big names like two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Vinesh Phogat, Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Brijendra Singh, who have campaigned extensively in Haryana.
The Congress's move to consolidate Jat, Dalit, and Muslim votes will bolster its chances. The Congress performed well in the Lok Sabha polls this year, winning 5 seats and gaining nearly 19% of the vote share since the 2019 elections. Now, it needs to keep the momentum going.
The Congress, which had been in power for a long time in Haryana since the first election in 1966, lost the last two elections. While in the 2014 Haryana elections, it lost 25 seats and managed to bag only 15, in 2019 it managed to better its tally with 31 seats. But it still fell way short of the magic figure of 46 in the 90-member assembly.
Congress candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat urged people to recognise their power and exercise their franchise on Saturday in the Haryana assembly election, saying it is the day of change.
Polling for all 90 assembly seats in Haryana began on Saturday morning amid tight security arrangements. Phogat is contesting from the Julana seat in Jind district on a Congress ticket.
After casting her vote at Balali in Charkhi Dadri district, Phogat said, "People of Haryana have huge expectations from the Congress. Everyone should come and cast their votes." Replying to a query, she said unemployment, drugs and women's safety are some of the major issues facing the state.
"We want to work in all areas in the coming five years. Today is the day of change, today is the day to awaken new hope. I appeal to the people of Haryana to come out of their homes and recognise their power," Phogat said.
The Congress nominee also said that the people of Haryana are fed up with the 10-year rule of the BJP and accused the party of committing atrocities against farmers and wrestlers.
Her rival candidate from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), wrestler Kavita Dalal, also appealed to voters to exercise their franchise.
She claimed that people would be voting on the issues of unemployment, health and education, adding that everybody would play their role in Julana's development.
Meanwhile, wrestler and Congress leader Bajrang Punia claimed that there is a Congress wave across Haryana. He said the party will win between 60 and 70 seats.
Speaking to reporters in Jhajjar, Punia alleged that the people of Haryana have understood that the BJP only played politics of casteism and hatred.
He also claimed that Phogat would win from Julana with a big margin.
Punia's wife Sangeeta Phogat said she voted for the first time on Saturday, exuding confidence that the Congress will form the government in Haryana.
"Everybody in the state wants a change," she added.
Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat's cousin and BJP leader Babita Phogat also urged people to come out of their homes and cast their votes.
"Celebrate this festival of democracy by casting your vote," the former wrestler said after casting her vote in Charkhi Dadri.
She also sounded confident of the BJP forming the government with a full mandate on October 8, the counting day.
Double Olympic medallist shooter Manu Bhaker, who also cast her vote for the first time in Jhajjar, said, "It is the duty of the youth to select their representatives." Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal reached the polling station on a horse to cast his vote.
"Riding a horse is considered auspicious... People ride horses while going to attend weddings. That is why I came on a horse for an auspicious work," the industrialist-politician said.
On his mother Savitri Jindal contesting the polls as an Independent nominee from Hisar, Jindal said the people made her contest the elections and they were quite enthusiastic about her candidature.
"It is going to be a one-sided contest which Mata Savitri Jindal will win by a big margin," he claimed.
After being denied a ticket by the BJP, Savitri Jindal filed her nomination as an Independent candidate from Hisar, taking on senior BJP leader Kamal Gupta, who is seeking re-election.
A software engineer based in the US, Rashika Gupta said she has returned home to exercise her franchise. "I came here to vote for the development of Kaithal," she told PTI.
On youngsters from the state migrating to other countries, Gupta said, "There are more opportunities in other countries, along with more money which offers more opportunities to grow." "India is also moving forward. The youth should vote in large numbers so that our state moves forward and creates more employment opportunities," she added. (PTI)

Background
Haryana Election Exit Poll Highlights: With the elections over, the 90-member Haryana Assembly is set to get a new set of ruling and Opposition MLAs. The fate of all 1,031 candidates contesting the Haryana elections will be revealed once the results are out on October 8. Before that, the analyses of the voting patterns and impact of the parties' campaigns will be done with the Haryana Exit Poll Results.
The election was a major showdown between the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress. The BJP faces strong resistance due to anti-incumbency, while Congress seeks to regain control of the state. While these two were the main players in this election, the Chautalas of the INLD and the JJP cannot be written off. The JJP, in fact, was the kingmaker in 2019.
However, this year, the JJP has been hit by a massive exodus of its MLAs, with 8 out of 10 quitting the party. The only MLAs left in the party were Dushyant Chautala and his mother Naina.
The Haryana Assembly elections follow shortly after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which the BJP managed to retain five of the 10 seats it won in 2019, while Congress claimed the remaining five.
Haryana Election Exit Poll: Where to Watch
Exit poll results have been unveiled after the conclusion of voting in line with Election Commission of India (ECI) regulations. ABP News is covering all the major exit poll results, and viewers can follow updates on the ABP LIVE website or its YouTube channel.
Polling agencies such as Axis My India, CVoter, CSDS–Lokniti, and Matrize are presenting their post-vote findings. For deeper insights, analyses, and discussions on the exit poll outcomes, ABP News and ABP Live has come up with extensive coverage.
Major candidates in this election include current Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, state minister Anil Vij, former wrestler Vinesh Phogat, and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, the state saw a hung assembly, with the BJP winning 40 seats and Congress securing 31. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) captured 10 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) managed just one. The remaining eight seats were claimed by independents and smaller parties.
The government in Haryana requires the support of 45 MLAs. After the 2019 results, the BJP entered into an alliance with the JJP, allowing Manohar Lal Khattar to continue as Chief Minister. However, this partnership fell apart in March this year, leading to Khattar’s resignation. Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the new Chief Minister and has been heading a minority government since May 2024, following the withdrawal of support from three independent legislators.
