Assembly Results 2022 Reaction HIGHLIGHTS: Reactions started pouring in as the first few rounds of counting in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections got over. The early trends showed a clear win for the BJP with the Congress lagging behind. The AAP, as was forecast by the ABP-CVoter exit poll, is a distant third so far.
According to the ABP News-CVoter exit poll, the BJP is likely to sail through, winning 128-140 seats. The Congress, after its biggest win in 2017 since 1985, is projected to win only 31-43 seats this year. The exit polls also point towards debutant Aam Admi Party making inroads, winning 3-11 seats.
The first phase of polling for the Gujarat Assembly election was held on December 1. A total of 89 seats were contested by 788 candidates. The second phase of the elections for 93 seats was held on December 5. As many as 833 candidates were in the fray.
While the first phase saw a voter turnout of 63.14%, the second phase was marked by a relatively low attendance of 58.8%.
The contest was expected to be a three-cornered fight between the BJP, the Congress, and the AAP. The highly anticipated results will decide whether BJP will form another government, or will Congress be able to wrest power from the saffron party, or if the AAP surprises pollsters.
The counting of votes for the Himachal Pradesh elections is also being conducted today. The hill state went to polls in a single phase on November 12 to elect the 68 members for its assembly. The fate of 412 candidates is being decided today.
Himachal saw a 75% voter turnout. The ABP News-CVoter exit poll has forecast a neck-and-neck contest for the BJP and the Congress. While the BJP is likely to bag 33 to 41seats, the Congress is expected to win 24 to 32 assembly seats. The AAP, though, is unlikely to open its account in the northern state.
