Rivaba Jadeja, wife of Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, won from the Jamnagar (north) constituency, beating her nearest rival Karshanbhai Karmur of the Aam Aadmi Party by 53,570 votes. Jadeja, contesting an election for the first time, secured 88,835 votes and garnered 57.79 per cent vote share.

She was given the ticket by the BJP over sitting MLA Dharmendrasinh Jadeja to ward of anti-incumbency factor in the state.

Speaking to the media, the BJP candidate from the Jamnagar (north) constituency said, "Those who accepted me happily as a candidate, worked for me, reached out & connected to people - I thank them all. It's not just my victory but of all of us."

"Manner in which BJP worked in Gujarat for last 27 yrs & established Gujarat model, people believed they want to take forward the development journey with only BJP. Gujarat was with BJP and will continue to be with them," she added.

Sibling rivalry was at play in Jamnagar North as Ravindra Jadeja batted for his wife Rivaba, while his sister Naynaba Jadeja and his father campaigned for the Congress.

"There is no difficulty. There can be people of different ideologies in the same family. I have trust in the people of Jamnagar, we will focus on overall development, and this time as well BJP will win with a good margin," said BJP's Rivaba Jadeja after she cast her vote in Rajkot in first round of election on December 1, according to news agency ANI.

Rivaba is the relative of Congress veteran Hari Singh Solanki and has also served the Rajput community organisation, Karni Sena, as the chief of the women’s wing.

The constituency had voted for the first time in 2012 after being carved out following delimitation. The Congress won it while the BJP grabbed it in 2017 after then incumbent MLA Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, locally better known as Hakubha, crossed over to the BJP.

An overwhelmingly urban constituency, Jamnagar North was always seen as more favourable to the BJP than the Congress.

Voting for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly was held in two phases, on December 1 and 5.
