New Delhi: With just days left for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday made four major promises, including employment and capping the price of a cooking gas cylinder to Rs 500 besides others, if the grand old party comes to power in the hill state.

“We are making four promises to you. We will give employment to four lakh people. We will give LPG cylinder in less than Rs 500,” the Wayanad MP said while addressing a rally in Haridwar, ANI reported.

“We will also implement ‘Nyay’ scheme here in which five lakh families will be given Rs 40,000 in a year. We will provide medical facilities at your doorstep,” he added.

The Congress leader also used the occasion to reach out to the farmers.

“We had promised loan waiver for the farmers in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Punjab and we did that,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra released the party’s manifesto for the Uttarakhand Assembly polls, promising to reserve 40% jobs for women in the police department, jobs to 400,000 people and capping the price of a cooking gas cylinder to Rs 500.

Releasing the manifesto titled ‘Uttarakhand Swabhiman Pratigya Patra’ at a virtual rally that was live-streamed across all 70 assembly constituencies, she exhorted the people to vote for the Congress in the upcoming state elections.

Polling for the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 14.

The results will be declared on March 10.

In the 2017 Uttarakhand Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won 56 seats, while the Congress managed to bag just 11 seats.
