New Delhi: BJP's Arvind Chauhan, Kalaburagi District Yuva Morcha General Secretary, and former Zilla Panchayat member, has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party after he was denied a ticket from the Chittapur assembly constituency for the May 10 state assembly election.


Instead, BJP fielded Manikanta Rathod from the Chittapur constituency.


Priyank M. Kharge from Congress is the sitting MLA from the Chittapur constituency.






Recently, BJP released its first, second, and third lists of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly election.


Following this, several BJP leaders resigned from the party after their names didn't feature in the party's candidates lists, including former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi.


BJP’s popular names in Karnataka who have quit the party:

Jagadish Shettar: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Shettar resigned from the state assembly on Sunday after he was denied a ticket to contest the upcoming assembly election.


On Monday, he joined the Congress party in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, state Congress president DK Shivakumar, former CM Siddaramaiah, and Congress leader Randeep Surjewala at the party office in Bengaluru.


He will contest with a Congress ticket from the Hubballi - Dharwad constituency after he was denied a BJP ticket from the same place.


Laxman Savadi: Former deputy chief minister Savadi resigned as the Legislative Council member of the BJP and also quit the party after he was not given a ticket to contest from the Athani constituency.


"I have made my decision. I am not the one who goes around with a begging bowl. I am a self-respecting politician. I am not acting under the influence of anyone," said the former deputy chief minister, as reported by ANI.


He recently joined the Congress party and will contest from Athani.


S Angara: Angara, a six-time MLA from the Sullia constituency in Dakshina Kannada district, announced his retirement from politics on Wednesday, a day after he was denied a ticket by the party for the upcoming election.


R Shankar: BJP MLC Shankar resigned from the legislative council a day after the ruling party denied him a ticket to contest. R Shankar was one of the 17 opposition MLAs who helped the BJP bring down the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in 2019.


M P Kumaraswamy: Three-time BJP MLA Kumaraswamy announced his resignation from the saffron party and blamed national general secretary C T Ravi for not getting the ticket.


He joined JD(S) on Friday in presence of the party's legislature party leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and state President C M Ibrahim.
