Delhi Election: Atishi Alleges BJP To Project Its 'Most Abusive Leader' As CM Face, Claims This Reason

Delhi Election 2025: CM Atishi alleges BJP plans to nominate Ramesh Bidhuri as chief ministerial candidate, claiming his history of verbal abuse as a reason for the selection.

Delhi Election 2025: Chief Minister Atishi, citing credible sources, alleged on Friday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to project its leader Ramesh Bidhuri as the party's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming assembly polls. She claimed that this decision was a “reward” for Bidhuri’s abusive rhetoric, which she characterised as a defining trait of the BJP.  

“It has been learnt from credible sources that the Gali Galauj Party has decided that the most abusive leader of the party, Ramesh Bidhuri, will become their chief ministerial candidate,” Atishi stated during a press conference.  

“BJP's Core Committee meeting is underway, and this evening they will hold their parliamentary board meeting. Through credible sources, we have found that the 'Galli-Galoch' party has decided that its CM face will be the one leader who hurls the most abuses, which is Ramesh Bidhuri,” Atishi asserted.

She claimed that the reason behind the same would be that the leader who hurls the most abuses "advances faster" in the party. "Ramesh Bidhuri abused in the Parliament. He abuses people within his own party. He has abused Purvanchali leaders and beaten them up. Everyone knows he used derogatory language for Priyanka Gandhi and also abused me and my family. So, the BJP is rewarding him declaring him as the CM face," the Delhi Chief Minister alleged.

Delhi Election 2025: Ramesh Bidhuri's Recent Controversies

Atishi, who is seeking re-election from the Kalkaji constituency, is facing BJP’s Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba in the contest. Her remarks are in line with the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) sustained criticism of the BJP, with its leaders, including party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, frequently dubbing the BJP as the “Gali Galauj Party” over alleged abusive attacks.  

Bidhuri recently courted controversy with remarks targeting both Atishi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. In a statement criticised by the AAP, he commented that Atishi “changed her father by changing her surname from Marlena to Singh.” Further, Bidhuri drew flak for a derogatory analogy, saying he would make roads in his constituency as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks. Following widespread backlash, Bidhuri retracted his statement.  

The Delhi Assembly elections will be conducted in a single phase on 5 February, with results to be declared on 8 February.
