New Delhi: Coming down heavily on the BJP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi termed the party’s actions as "tax terrorism" through the misuse of investigative agencies and issued a stern warning, asserting that once the government changes, measures will be taken to ensure that such actions are not repeated.
Taking to X, Gandhi shared a video clip from his press conference on March 15, wherein he addressed queries regarding income-tax notices issued against his party. With the post was the hashtag "#BJPTaxTerrorism."
“When the government changes, action will definitely be taken against those who have disrobed democracy. And such exemplary action will be taken that no one will dare to do all this again. This is my guarantee,” Gandhi wrote.
His post came on a day the Congress said it had received fresh notices from the income tax department, demanding a payment of Rs 1,823.08 crore. The party alleged “serious violation” of income-tax laws by the BJP, suggesting that authorities should demand over Rs 4,600 crore from the saffron party.
Accusing the ruling BJP of employing "tax terrorism" to weaken the Opposition financially ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leaders convened a press conference at the AICC headquarters.
Congress leader Ajay Maken stated that the BJP had violated income-tax laws, urging the Income Tax department to demand Rs 4,617.58 crore from the ruling party for these infractions.
Highlighting a key requirement, Maken pointed out that political parties are required to submit Form 24A, providing essential information such as the names and addresses of donors.
"We have analysed all the submissions of the BJP to the Election Commission (EC). The party has faltered every year," PTI quoted Maken as saying.
